Direct thermal labels are a clever, low-maintenance solution for fast, high-quality printing. Using a heat-sensitive coating, the label itself reacts to the printer’s heat—no ribbons, ink or toner needed. Just sharp, clean results with minimal fuss..

How it works

As the label passes under the thermal printhead, tiny heating elements activate in a precise pattern. This heat causes the coated surface to darken, producing barcodes, text, or images instantly—making it perfect for short-term labelling needs.

Cost-Effective

Since no ribbon or ink is required, the only consumable is the label itself, which reduces both material costs and waste.

Simple to Use

The lack of a ribbon simplifies the printing process and reduces downtime, as there's no need to change out supplies other than the label roll.

Compact

The simpler design means direct thermal printers are often smaller and more portable than other types.

Direct thermal labels are ideal for products that have a short shelf life or for applications where the label doesn't need to last for more than a few months.

Eco thermal labels are the more economical, uncoated option and are best suited for short-term use in normal conditions as they are vulnerable to light, heat, and abrasion. Thermal top-coated labels feature a protective top layer which makes them more durable and resistant to scratching, moisture, and temperature changes, making them ideal for longer-term storage or harsh environments.

  • Materials - Choose from a wide range of papers and synthetics Under Materials, add 'Formats' - These include rolls, sheets and fanfold.

  • Colours - Pick a Pantone! We'll match it.

  • Shapes and sizes - Selected from a huge selection of stock cutters, or we can product custom cutting guides specifically for your order. Perforation, butt-cut and back cut options are also available.

  • Adhesives - Make it stick! Whatever your label shape and size we provide an appropriate adhesive solution to suit your specific application.

  • Variables - If you need to over print variable data talk to us and find how we can advise on the best option for your direct thermal transfer or other printing methods.
